Wednesday, Mar. 12, 2003 - 2:11 p.m. I just discovered I have a new pet peeve. A staff worker from another department stopped by to drop off some paperwork and chatted with me for a few minutes. It was the usual office chit-chat, of the "I can't wait till Friday," "It's Hump Day, we're halfway through" variety. But, this person apparently took one of those oddball courses on effective communication or something, as they insisted on inserting my name at some random point in each sentence. "Thank you, Matt, for processing this form so quickly, Matt. I really appreciate it, Matt. Matt, this sure is great weather we're having today, isn't it, Matt? I can't wait until the weekend, can you, Matt?" I'm all about me, but geez! If I'm the only person in the room with you, I can safely assume you are talking to me. You know my name, and that certainly makes me feel warm and fuzzy. Constantly repeating my name unnecessarily in conversation just makes you look creepy, FYI. Has anyone noticed the new Arby's mascot? It's this cute little talking pot holder. They really should start giving those out as promotional items. I'd be all about having a talking pot holder hanging from my oven door.
